An independently owned, traditional publisher of timely, conversation-starting nonfiction.
Flatpage Press is an independent nonfiction publisher dedicated to publishing intellectually ambitious books that inform public conversation and stand the test of time. We work with academics, journalists, researchers, policy experts, entrepreneurs, and other thought leaders whose ideas deserve to reach beyond their professional communities.
As a traditional publishing house, we seek original nonfiction that combines rigorous thinking with broad public appeal. From politics and philosophy to business, science, history, and culture, we publish books that help readers better understand the world while advancing meaningful dialogue across disciplines.
Every book we publish receives careful editorial development, exceptional design, and a long-term publishing strategy. We believe powerful ideas deserve thoughtful publishing—and that the best nonfiction doesn’t simply inform, but endures.

Most impressively, since inking the contract [the team at Flatpage has] been personally involved in all stages of writing, editing, and producing the book; they are ‘hands-on’ in the best sense of that phrase, down to the level of suggestions when my word choice was a bit off. It is clear they take great pride in what Flatpage produces, and I am grateful for their engagement throughout the process.
Christopher Strain, Author of Gunocracy

Calls for Submission
2026 Publishing Program
Flatpage is seeking proposals for its 2026 publishing program of nonfiction books showcasing strong ideas expressed in a clear and accessible manner for a broad audience. A renowned editorial agency, Flatpage now offers full publishing services, launching with our own book The Art of Academic Editing: A Guide for Authors and Editors and Christopher B. Strain’s Gunocracy.
We are currently commissioning compelling books that explore how the insights gained from research can be applied to effect positive change, challenge conventional thinking, and encourage innovative approaches. We specialize in helping academics reach a wide audience of general readers, thus broadening the impact of their ideas, and working with journalists who want to tell more in-depth stories through longer-form writing.
We are open to submissions of intellectual and engaging books across the visual arts, humanities, and social sciences. Our particular interest lies in topics with significant social, cultural, and political resonance, offering fresh perspectives and a critical reevaluation of contemporary topics.
Flatpage is excited to announce a new publishing initiative dedicated to elevating the voices of today’s most inspiring leaders across business, philanthropy, the arts and sciences, social impact, higher education, and beyond. We are seeking proposals for nonfiction books that offer more than memoir—they should be guidebooks, testaments to how purposeful leadership can foster real change and inspire others to find their own paths to impact.
We’re looking for bold, thoughtful narratives that explore how individuals have leveraged ambition, creativity, and resilience to lead transformative initiatives, influence industries, and better the world. These books should be rooted in lived experience but also aimed at broader significance: stories with takeaways that equip and energize a new generation of change-makers.
Yes. Flatpage Press is an independent traditional publisher that selectively acquires nonfiction books. We invest in the editorial development, design, production, and distribution of every title we publish.
Do I need a literary agent to submit my manuscript?
No. While we welcome submissions from literary agents, we also accept direct submissions from authors whose work aligns with our publishing mission. Please review our submission guidelines before sending a proposal.

We’re welcome to work with your ideas or preferred designer or help you choose a design and professional to best fit your project.
